Prospective A Cappella West Chorus
Enthusiastic Debut
Prospective A Cappella West Chorus, directed by Lindsey Dyer, directors' coordinator for Region 34, saw a hugely successful first night. We had a fantastic team to kick off this chorus. Starting a new chorus from scratch has been a dream of Lindsey's, and that dream has now become reality. Lindsey and Jennifer Bullen, past MMC coordinator for Region 34, put together a fantastic advertising campaign which resulted in an excess of 130 women who registered their interest. On our first night we had 96 members including 20 helpers and seven voice testers, all of whom are new to barbershop! We may have created a record in our region for the most attendees on the first night. We are expecting another 10 to 15 over the next weeks, as well.
Perth, Western Australia , has been crying out for another chorus for many years. Perth Harmony Chorus has been the only chorus that anyone knows of in the west and when Lindsey moved from Sydney, New South Wales, she knew she was in the right place at the right time. Lindsey is conducting a six-week program, culminating in a show in April. She will be ecstatic if we retain 40-45 ladies to charter. Watch out for ACW in Region 34!

Prospective DaleDiva Chorus
Strong Start
Hi, fellow prospective choruses. Prospective DaleDiva here from the Derbyshire Dales of England, letting you know about a busy three months we have had. Prospective DaleDiva Chorus has performed for the first time and we loved every minute! I was asked back in January if the chorus was interested in taking part in a charity concert at the end of April. We would be required to do two show spots of twenty minutes. At the time of the invite the chorus was only two months old, yet I already knew that I had a group of women who were up for the challenge so I nervously agreed. In 17 weeks the girls learned 11 songs! I watched each chorus rehearsal as they began to grasp the barbershop art form and the way that people were getting to know each other and the excitement that was building.
As I look back now, agr eeing to do the show was exactly what the chorus needed - a goal very early on. Before we knew it we were lining up to take our place onstage in front of an audience of 550. Wearing new costumes, shoes, jewelry and makeup, we performed the first song, the final chord sung and then we heard the applause. As I watched their beaming smiles I knew all the hard work had been worth it. They loved performing and they were hooked! The compliments afterwards were very positive and we had four people from the audience who want to audition to join us. It is so true that we are our best marketing tool.
So what’s next for the busy Divas? We have a music festival coming up in two weeks, and then four sing-outs in the local area over the next three months.
Following my article in the last newsletter I have been asked how I managed to get so many people interested on that very first opening night. All I can say is that my poster was very simple and to the point: “WANTED, women who sing.” I managed to get publicity from our three local newspapers and our local radio station. My tip is to get potential members through the door because of curiosity; don’t give them all the facts beforehand. I also taught them a simple song in four-part harmony their first night so that they left that evening much more informed and with a sense of accomplishment. We have really enjoyed reading about our fellow prospective choruses and send you all our best wishes.

Prospective Heart of Columia Chorus
Ready, Set, Grow
The Prospective Heart of Columbia Chorus is marching toward the goal of chartering by the end of the year. To sing well, perform often and have fun is our motto. We are learning more and more new music and are having a great time doing it. Approximately 35 ladies attend regularly on Thursday evenings and in March the chorus took 13 members to observe competitions. The excitement was awesome and we are looking forward to our time in the spotlight. In May Prospective Heart of Columbia will be the guest chorus on the local men’s Barbershop Society’ show and at the end of June we will sing at their Patriotic Concert. Plans are underway for a six week Ready, Set, Grow Program this summer to attract new members culminating in our one-year anniversary celebration in September.
This chorus enjoys fun, friendship and fellowship. We want to share the gift of music and harmony with everyone in the Columbia area.

Prospective Spirit of the Coast
Spirits Soaring
Prospective Spirit of the Coast is nearing completion of its journey to becoming a fully charterd chorus. We had our final musical assessment visit from Susan Lansdown, regional education coordinator and International faculty associate. Susan gave up a day during school holidays to travel to the coast from Brisbane, as other members of the regional team were tied up with their upcoming convention in Hobart. Susan's effort was very much appreciated. After all the angst and hard work our chorus passed with flying colors.
Only the paperwork process through the regional office remains and we are thrilled! Prospective Spirit of the Coast Chorus is looking forward to participating at the Buzz Workshops in New Zealand in June and onstage with Christchurch City Chorus. Who better to mentor and support us than Virginia Humphrey-Taylor and her chorus? They have certainly given us a benchmark to aspire to.
We are very thankful for our Regional Management Team, especially for their support and encouragement through this process and we would like to take this opportunity to wish all musical directors, their choruses and quartets all the very best for the competition in Hobart. Prospective Spirit of the Coast sincerely wishes other prospective chorus all the very best in their endeavors to become a part of this wonderful Sweet Adelines organization. As our song says, "I hope and pray we'll be together for many years to come."
