The Vocal Majority Selected to Perform at ACDA National Convention

County Connection’s Caribbean Island Tour
This past March, 20 members of the County Connection Chorus and 12 of our closest friends and family set sail aboard the Carnival Liberty on a fantastic six-day cruise in the Caribbean. With stops in Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and the Bahamas, there was an abundance of turquoise water, beautiful beaches, and of course breathtaking sunsets. We sang every night at dinner, feasted on fantastic food, and had an absolutely unforgettable trip. Here’s another reason why:
The cruise director made an announcement that Carnival Cruise Lines and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Breast Cancer Foundation had teamed up to create “On Deck for the Cure.” For a $10 (USD) donation, you donned a pink and white t-shirt and bracelet and headed up to the top deck of the cruise ship to walk. We knew this was something we had to do! We made a handwritten sign that simply said, “We walk 4 Barb.” Barb Barnosky is one of our members who was at home struggling with chemotherapy, surgery and the other struggles that come along with a breast cancer diagnosis. Before the walk started our group circled together and hand-in-ha nd sang, That’s What Friends Are For. We sang for Barb, those who lost their struggle to breast cancer and the hundreds of people on deck that day walking for the cure.
We are happy to say that Barb is feeling great and looking good with her new short, curly hairdo. County Connection is planning another cruise in 2010. You should join us! Our chorus prides itself on being a loving, welcoming family of joyful spirits where every moment together is fun and where everybody knows your name.

Emerald City Chorus' Tailgate Party
Emerald City Chorus invited guests to attend their first annual Tailgate Party on Sept. 8 to kick off their upcoming Christmas performance season. They have also been invited to continue attending rehearsals, learn the music and choreography and perform on stage with the entire chorus at two different historic theaters on two different dates along with other community singing opportunities.
Our guests were treated to hot dogs with all the trimmings, homemade cookies, coffee and drinks. Mother Nature cooperated by not producing a single drop of rain. It was the perfect evening to introduce new pe ople to barbershop music. We started the rehearsal with everyone on the risers singing Harmony Collage. This helped guests decide what part they wanted to sing and then we were placed into sections on the risers. The excitement felt from the guests was absolutely exhilarating. As rehearsal continued we learned the opening show song, It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.
When this exciting evening was over, members again visited with the guests and they assured us they would be returning. Several even stated they would be bringing their sister, mother, or friend next week! Pictured is our newest member Diana Taylor and her two daughters.

Pitch Him Out
It was an ordinary evening after chorus rehearsal, just like any other, but I was about to face something very usual. As I opened my car door to throw in my rehearsal gear I saw something brown and fury run under the door and into the car. It turned around and two little eyes looked up at me. A raccoon was in the front seat of my car!
I knew immediately took out my camera, how else would anyone believe this? Then I looked him squarely in the eye and said, “You have to get out! Now!” He was unimpressed. “Really, out, out!!” He was cute and friendly, but touching him would be a very bad idea, so I resisted the temptation to grab him and drag him out. I opened the other car door, thinking maybe I can shoo him out. He hopped over the seats and rummaged around in the back. That didn’t work. He seamed quite fond of a pillow so I thought to use it and coax him out. He held onto the pillow, I pulled it; he took a few steps then turned loose. I’ve tried almost everything I know, what now?
Surprisingly, he climbed over my tote bag back to the floor and accidentally stepped on my Pocket Tones pitch pipe. It sounded a pitch that startled him and with a look of panic he quickly bounded out of the car. Whew! Just as quickly I closed the doors and headed home with proof in my hands.

Although we are still in the implementation phase of the new real women. real harmony. real fun. campaign we have spoken to several members who are well-underway with a new membership campaign. We would like to include your helpful promotional tips into our Marketing Center for other members to learn from.
For those of you who have already seen results from your new campaign please send your stories into membership coordinator, Ann-Marie Dowling at ann-marie@sweetadelineintl.org. Send us your successful and unsuccessful experiences. Success stories are great to share with the membership but even if you haven't had great success with your campaign you can share tips with the membership on what to steer clear of.
Thank you for supporting this campaign and making time to review and utilize the tools and resources of the new marketing center. This month we are featuring the Logos/Graphics page of the Marketing Center Web site.
Logos/Graphics Page
This portion of the marketing center provides information on Sweet Adelines International’s graphic standards and downloadable links to a variety of corporate, campaign, convention, YWIH and YSF logos and graphics. This page also offers thorough information on why it is so vital to our organization that members keep within the graphic standards set by Sweet Adelines International when using our logos, graphics and images.
To assist members in creating materials that are consistent and compliant with Sweet Adelines International's graphic standards a manual has been prepared for members to download from the Logos/Graphics page of the Marketing Center Web site. Becoming familiar with these standards and faithfully applying them will allow Sweet Adelines International to maintain consistency and integrity throughout all our communications initiatives.
Within the Logos/Graphics page of the Marketing Center you will find a wide range of downloadable links with descriptions of each image. If you would like to download the image to use in your promotional materials, simply click on the image of your choice. Depending on the file, whether it is for web or print it may take more or less time to load to your computer. Once the file becomes available you can choose to save it to your computer for your personal use. Please address any issues that arise when downloading logos and graphics to the communications department at international headquarters. |

Every Vote Counts
Whether your chorus has been chartered for less than a year or more than 50 years, or you are a short-term or long-time at-large member, your participation in the annual election of the International Board of Directors is important to you and the future of Sweet Adelines International.
The election mailing containing your balloting instructions, ballot, candidate biography/photo flier, and official return envelope was sent from international headquarters in early September. If you have misplaced or damaged your ballot, you may request a replacement by contacting the Corporate Secretary at corp_secy@sweetadelineintl.org or calling 800-992-7464, ext. 139.
It is typical for an at-large member or some chapters to say they chose not to vote because they didn’t feel they knew the candidat es. This should not prevent you from voting. You can click here to read all about the candidates, their qualifications and aspirations for our future, and even see their pictures.
The deadline for receipt of official ballots from chartered chapters as well as at-large members is 3 p.m. (Central Time) Wednesday, December 3. Mail your ballots at least two weeks prior to this deadline in order to be received in time to be counted. Or you may fax your ballot to 918-388-8083. Or scan your completed ballot, save it as a PDF, and e-mail it to corp_secy@sweetadelineintl.org.
Let your voice be heard! Participate in the process! Vote! It’s a privilege of your membership.

Young Singers Foundation Registered with I Give!
Did you know that YSF is recognized as a registered not-for-profit organization with I Give? It's true. This is a wonderful way to complete your holiday shopping online and support the foundation at the same time.
Any purchases made with companies or stores they list will credit a certain percentage back to YSF as a charitable donation. The percentage donated will vary, but typically averages about 2% and can be as much as 6 %, depending on the commission I Give earns from the store. Total donations will depend on how many people use I Give, where the purchases are made, and how much they total each month.
Some members in our organization are already using I Give. Any one of you can participate in this program and help YSF raise funds on an ongoing basis. An individual percentage may not seem like much, but it could certainly add-up when you factor in how many people may use this program and how many purchases they make, especially during the holiday season that's soon to be upon us!
You can go to www.igive.com, or use the following link to get started. http://www.igive.com/html/igivenews.cfm?mid=390634&mc=F5F7AA6C-8E24-4886-A27
