FACULTY OBJECTIVE
To provide skill building exercises leading toward proficiency in
the following sight reading requirements: pitch memory and matching,
meter identification, recognition and performance of rhythmic values,
establishing and demonstrating interval clarity, recognition and tuning
of basic barbershop chords and establishing the key of song and the
starting pitch. To practice the exercises and to apply the skills
directly to sight reading four part barbershop arrangements and to
enjoy the process.

Class Time: 1 Hour
Description of Class: Keep chorus members challenged, rewarded and
happy to avoid membership decline and to keep people singing. Identify
the driving forces behind your individual choruses and cater to their
desires while involving them in meaningful music making. Make it fun,
make it educational, and make it yours!

Description of Class: Discover what you and your chorus may be doing
unintentionally that excludes potential members of a variety of ages,
races, educational backgrounds and religions from joining you. Seek
a new approach to membership through your attitude, image, music choice,
performance emceeing, rehearsal location and other contributing factors.
Class Topic: Understanding the Contemporary Barbershop World
Class Title: Not Your Grandfather's (Grandmother's) Barbershop
Class Time: 1 Hour
Description of Class:Video examples and live demonstrations illustrate
the adaptation of a variety of musical styles into the a cappella
barbershop exhibited by today's choruses. This class is particularly
suited to new Sweet Adelines and to outside audiences.

leaders, tape checkers and vocal coaches within your chorus.

Class Time: 1 Hour to a Full Day - Adaptable
Description of Class: Prioritize the basics of what you and your chorus
need. Find resources and mentors to help. Understand how to find appropriate
music, use the DCP materials and other resources available through
international headquarters and elsewhere. Share successes and questions
with others who are starting out. This is a very practical, hands-on
class for new directors.

Assistants)
Class Title: How Do I Fit In?
Class Time: 1 Hour
Description of Class: Identify together the strengths and interests
of all the assistants in your chorus. Work out a plan for strengthening
the chorus and sharing the weekly load so that there are several faces
in front of the chorus, the rehearsals have variety and momentum,
skills are being presented by the best teachers and demonstrators,
and "hand waving" is effective for all.

Description of Class: Using the YWIH Guide for Chapters, learn effective
methods for starting YWIH programs at the local level, approaching
school departments, knowing what's appropriate and where to find help
in starting choruses, quartets and/or festivals.

Description of Class: step-by-step details for organizing an invitational
festival, either for Young Women and Young Men in Harmony, or for
an exchange of performances among several community groups.

Class Time: Full Day
Description of Class: Participate in a full day of rehearsal with
other middle school, high school and/or college-aged singers in preparation
for a public appearance. The festival can be held in conjunction with
a regional educational weekend or summer school or offered by a local
chorus.
