The PR/marketing chair's function is to
make reporters and photographers' jobs easy, to run interference
for them, to smooth the way. The better prepared your chorus
is, the easier the reporters' jobs will be.
Notify the chorus ahead of time that
media will be present.
Schedule individual interviews at times
other than during regular rehearsals. Prepare individuals
thoroughly. See Interviewing techniques.
Ask members to be on their best behavior.
You may want to ask members to wear simple coordinated outfits
for better photos. (dark slacks or skirts with solid-color
tops look great.)
Ask individuals not to talk to reporters/camera
operators while they are busy with their jobs. Remind the
chorus that interrupting media representatives at work hampers
their ability to do the work they were assigned.
Remind members: comments that seem funny
in contest can be embarrassing in print or on the air.
