2009 International Champion Chorus

Melodeers
#3, Northbrook, Illinois
Jim Arns, director
The Melodeers Chorus, from Northbrook, Ill., took gold at the 2008 Sweet Adelines International Convention and Competition during the chorus finals on Nov. 8, 2008, in Honolulu, Hawaii. One hundred forty-five of the 158-member chorus performed onstage and wowed the judges and audience with its creative and musical entertainment package.
This is the choruses fourteenth year to compete at the International level and the fifth International gold medal. The Melodeers chorus is the only Sweet Adelines International chorus to win four consecutive International championships. The chorus was awarded gold medals at every International competition it participated in from 1995 through 2004 and took second place in 2006.
Jim Arns has directed the Melodeers Chorus for more than 20 years. Since chartering in 1960, the Melodeers Chorus has come a long way. Today the chorus has members that serve on the International Board of Directors, the International Faculty, the International Judging Program and on their Regional Management Team. Three of their members belong to the 2008 International Quartet Champions, The Four Bettys, and several others belong to amazingly talented Internationally competing quartets.
The chorus has a diverse membership of women ranging in age from 18- to 79-years-old. There are five mother and daughter combinations, and five sets of sisters within the chorus. The women that make up the Melodeers chorus come from all walks of life, including housewives, students, business owners, an exotic animal veterinarian, an internal affairs officer, a public defender, and more. No matter how diverse in nature their chorus members are, they all bond together once a week to share their love for singing.
Speaking for the entire chorus, chorus member, Kirsten Majeski announced, “We were honored to be able to compete in Hawaii representing Region 3. We loved performing and sharing that experience with all of our sisters in harmony from around the world!”
The Melodeers Chorus does a variety of performances throughout the community each year. For more information, visit http://www.melodeers.com/index.shtml.
