2009 International Champion Quartet

Moxie Ladies
#4 & #17, Columbus, Ohio
Stacey St. John, Jennifer Perry-Edwards, Amy Leacock, Gretchen Holloway
Sweet Adelines International crowned the Moxie Ladies quartet at the 62nd annual Sweet Adelines International Convention and Competition on Friday, Nov. 7, 2008 in Honolulu, Hawaii. The judges and audience were wowed when the Moxie Ladies gave a nearly immaculate performance, including breathtaking barbershop harmony and witty sidebars throughout the entertainment package.
Moxie Ladies’ members are Stacey St. John, Jennifer Edwards, Amy Leacock, and Gretchen Holloway, all from separate parts of Ohio. They have been singing together for nearly four years and have shared the International stage each of those years. Prior to their championship win, the Moxie Ladies have placed in the top ten twice at International competition.
Although they have only been singing together for a short time, this group has deep musical roots. Both Jennifer and Amy are music educators who spent much of their high school and college years immersed in singing lessons and music courses. Both Stacey and Gretchen are second-generation barbershoppers who grew up singing barbershop with their parents. Before their big win this year, their most memorable performance together is when they placed in the top ten for the first time. Gretchen couldn’t help but mention, “Each time we make music we make more awesome memories together. Can you tell we love each other?”
First place did not come without hours of practice, coaching and lots of fun in between. “Laughter and hard work! ” is how Gretchen explained their preparation for International competition. The Moxie Ladies sing and perform at various events throughout the year, including regional events and chapter shows that span the country.
