Chorus
#25,
Richardson, Texas
Dale Syverson, director
Rich-Tone
Chorus, from the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas area took gold at the 2009 Sweet Adelines
International Convention and Competition during the chorus finals held on Oct.
24, 2009, in Nashville, Tenn. One hundred and twenty-three of the 147-member chorus
performed onstage and wowed the judges and audience with its creative and musical
entertainment package.
This
is their twelfth year to compete at the International level and their fifth year
to win the International gold medal. Rich-Tone chorus members are highly trained
and talented arrangers, choreographers, and technicians who have helped define
Rich-Tone's identity as an enthusiastic group of women who embrace the American
art form of four-part a cappella harmony and customize it to reflect their colorful
personality.
Dale
Syverson has directed the Rich-Tone Chorus for more than 33 years. Since chartering
in 1968, the Rich-Tone Chorus has come a long way. Today the chorus has members
who serve as International Faculty, in the International Judging Program and on
the Regional Management Team. The chorus is also equipped with several members,
who are master and associate directors. Three members have worn the crown as former
International quartet champions and several other members currently belong to
amazingly talented Internationally competing quartets.
The
chorus has a diverse membership of women ranging in age from 21- to over 80 years
old. There are two mother and daughter combinations and several babies born within
the chorus over the last few years who are currently being groomed to become Rich-Tone
members. The women that make up the Rich-Tone chorus come from all walks of life
and no matter how diverse in nature the chorus members are they all bond together
at least once a week to share their love for singing. Chorus member Colette McDonald
explained, "We are Texas girls with great big hearts. We love having visitors
and sharing our music with others. If you're in our area, please stop by!"
The
Rich-Tone Chorus holds an annual show and casino night each year and also participates
in a variety of performances throughout the community. The chorus has had opportunities
to perform with Maureen McGovern and the award winning male quartet, Max Q.
