Sound
City Chorus Takes First
Place
(DATE, YOUR TOWN, STATE)
- The Sound City Chorus
captured first
place
at the regional Sweet Adelines
chorus competition held
Saturday, May 10,
at
Welsh Auditorium in Grand
Rapids, Michigan. As regional
champions they
will
advance to international competition, which will take place (DATE),
in
(PLACE); they will be competing again 34 other Sweet Adelines
regional
winners.
Leading
Sound City Chorus to victory
was new director Tanya Tan
of Lake
Zurich.
Because her chorus scored
609 points, Tan was honored
with the
title
of Master Director.
The
Sound City Chorus is one
of 15 Sweet Adelines International
choruses
that participated in the
Grand Rapids regional competition.
These
choruses
represent the Region 3 'Round
the Lake area (which includes
portions
of
Illinois, Michigan, and
Indiana).
Two
quartets from Sound City,
Gold Plate and Sound Machine,
also
competed in the contest
against 10 other Region
3 quartets. Gold Plate,
a
new
quartet, won second place.
Sound Machine quartet took
sixth place and
received
the Most Improved Quartet
award.
Members
of Gold Plate quartet are
Tanya Brown, lead, of Naperville;
Pat
Smith,
bass, of Burr Ridge; Karen
Blake, baritone, of Villa
Park; and
Donna
Dawes, tenor, of Batavia.
Members
of Sound Machine quartet
are Kappie Park, lead, of
Aurora;
Bev Brown, bass, of Streamwood;
Kelly Ledman, baritone,
of Elgin;
and
Grace Kirr, tenor, of Aurora.
The
Sound City Chorus numbers
more than 120 women who
share a love
of
music and singing four-part
barbershop harmony. The
chorus holds weekly
rehearsals
on Monday at Christian Missionary
Alliance Church, 177 N.
Cass
Ave.,
Westmont. The Sound City
Chorus have taken first
place at six regional
competitions
and have won two international
chorus medals.
