The Waikato Rivertones chorus chartered 12 years ago on May 25,
1995. There are three quartets that stem from the chorus.
The chorus has a diverse membership of women ranging in age from 23
to over 70 years old. They come from all walks of life. There are
two mother and daughter teams and two pairs of sisters among the membership,
as well as several cousins. There are several members who drive long
distances to sing with the chorus. One group of members drive one-and-a-half
hours one-way, often in thick fog, to rehearsal each week. That’s
dedication for you!
In 2001 Waikato Rivertones won the region 35 competition. The
chorus annually participates in several community events, including
regular concerts with male choruses, Summer Arts Festivals, Relay
For Life, Young Women in Harmony Festivals, and public Holiday caroling.
They scored an impressive 1312 points in the Harmony Classic Competition,
making them the decisive champions.
